About Sable Originel
Sable Originel is the only one of the 37 tones that is natural: the earth is left raw, with no layer of glaze. That is what gives it its matte look and its sandy tone, a warm, almost powdery beige that recalls dry earth under sunlight. Each tile, shaped and hand cut in Fez, carries its own breath of color: some lean toward a milkier beige, others hold a deeper shadow, without breaking the overall harmony. Light does not bounce off this surface, it settles into it and reveals the quiet relief between tiles. This natural zellige asks for a little care in return: an unglazed surface is more porous and more sensitive to stains and grease than a glazed one. We therefore advise against it as a kitchen splashback, and recommend it for walls, dry floors and rooms with limited exposure. Next to Craie Antique, Blanc Pur or Calcaire Doré, all of them glazed, Sable Originel offers a material that is flatter, more matte and more mineral.
Pairs well with
- Artisanal zellige handmade in Fès, Morocco.
- Each tile is unique - variations in shade, texture and dimensions (±2mm) are inherent to the artisanal process.
- These imperfections are the mark of the product's authenticity.
